Tim Gunn's Guide To Style Premiere Party

Darlings, we had an opportunity to attend the launch party for Tim's new show at the SoHo Grand last night, but since we're still unpacking (and hanging mirrors and painting trim and debating furniture arrangements and wondering why we have so many baskets and so on) we regretfully had to decline. But fret not, for we had a certain someone on the inside do our dirty work for us and they sent us these pics for your enjoyment.

The man of the hour.

Our spy tells us that Tim spent over an hour talking to the press.

Tim getting his groove on to Natasha Bedingfield.

The Bravo Posse, representing.

Marsha Tonkins, Tim's assistant. She's worked with Tim Gunn for 12 years, following him to Liz Claiborne from Parson's.

Tim with professional starfucker, Michael Musto.

Tim Gunn's biggest fan, CEO of Liz Claiborne, Bill McComb.
Tim: "Bill is a genius and a visionary."

Laura Bennett and Emmett McCarthy give Tim a group hug.

Kara Janx with husband Red and "Bump."

Jeffrey looks good. Our spy tells us that he did NOT throw a drink in Laura's face or get in a hair-pulling match with her, but we'll let you in on any further details as they become available.

You gotta give Project Runway props for one thing: they did manage to find and spotlight some truly unique characters.

Kara Janx Fall 2007 Collection
That very high-waisted balloony skirt thing is a KJ staple. It's cute, but it's definitely for the very young and very thin.

Love these two. A more tailored look than we're used to seeing from Kara. Still rocking that super high waist, but with a more structured feel to it.

These are both adorable. That one on the right just screams "party dress." We've said this before, but we just love Kara's color sense.

Cute, but we can't say we like that bib thing on the right. CORRECTION: Lorenzo loves it. Tom doesn't.

Love the one on the right (which is another KJ staple), not so much on the left.

We love you Kara, but we are OVER the metallics - although we like both dresses.

Cute and cute.

Out Gunned.
Out Magazine put big old mess Marc Jacobs on the cover, but as in life, it's what's inside that counts. First, an interview with Tim Gunn.

So you didn't grow up fixated on fashion?
I was fixated on architecture and interiors, which of course had everybody worried. I had a really butch father — so butch I thought maybe he was a closet case. He was an FBI agent and a sports lover, and the only sport I could even participate in was swimming, because it was nice and clean and you didn’t sweat.
On politics:
Who on Capitol Hill needs Tim Gunn's Guide to Style most?
Laura Bush. Oh, my God!
On Project Runway:
You have no influence over the judges?
None. It keeps me an honest man. I have no interaction with them at all, but that doesn't mean they don't drive me to total despair.
And how do they do that?
How do the judges drive me to total despair? By smoking crack! By making decisions I can't fathom.

On his show:
You're quick to point out that Guide to Style isn't a typical makeover show.
I'm not a fashion Svengali. I don't throw clothes at you and tell you if you wear these things, all your fashion foibles will go away. I'm a fashion therapist.
On his personal life:
How's your romantic life?
I haven’t been in a relationship since 1982. God, that sounds pathetic. But I was so severely hurt that I’ve never, ever gotten over it. I was so madly and desperately in love that I didn’t see the end coming. It was a routine night on the couch watching television, and he turned to me and just said, 'I don’t have the patience for you. I can’t do this anymore.' After nine years. I still remember leaving his apartment, driving down Rock Creek Parkway in Washington, D.C., thinking, Maybe I’ll just drive right off the bridge.
Then they followed up with their favorite PR alums by making them pose for a dorky picture. Emmett says they had to "make it work" with tin foil, whatever that means.

Ripping the Collections: Kara, Part Two

This is just gorgeous. Once again, Kara pairs two colors to great effect.
And once again, she manages to achieve a look that we would normally hate - a bubble skirt over pants - and have it look chic and cute.On the other hand...
No. Sorry, no. These two queens have their limits.
Ignoring that, we just don't like the outfit overall. The colors (surprisingly), the distracting suspenders, that thing she's got around her neck - none of it's working for us.
On the other other hand...
Wow. This is really breathtaking.

Just a beautiful combination of colors, plus the heavy trim in the bodice and the double straps, the full skirt and high waist -- It's all pure Kara Janx and the effect is stunning.
One interesting thing about this collection is that it was all about working a small set of of themes over and over again. The beauty was found as much in the combination of designs as in the designs themselves. She took the bodice from the previous look and combined it with the skirt from her second look.
We're in love/hate mode. If you check the video, it moves beautifully and certainly the colors are beautiful. And we liked the similar full skirt in the first look...
Loved this look. Young and chic and flattering.
Kara's practically built her empire on her kimono wrap dress, so the look might seem a bit ubiquitous (especially since Madonna ripped it off for H&M) but that doesn't negate how striking this is. Eye-popping colors, perfect fit and proportions, and striking model all create the perfect look. Gorgeous.
It appeals to our inner drama queens to declare Kara's lack of a win (or even a national showcase) as a tragedy, but if it's a tragedy, it's one with an awfully happy ending. She's working like a champ, churning out beautiful, chic designs that are gaining increasing attention. Like Emmett, she's a perfect example of someone who might not have been the right fit for reality television, but in the end, their talent won out anyway.Well kittens, we have exhaustively written about all 3 seasons of Project Runway and this post brings that to a close. At this point, we're ready to declare ourselves the world's foremost Project Runway experts. We've got our Ph.D's in Runwayology.
Unfortunately, this also brings the daily content to an end for awhile. We're not going to post just to fill up space, but we will be posting on a semi-regular basis about things PR-related, including upcoming trips to see Laura, Emmett, and maybe a few other surprises. We will of course be blogging Season 4 like gangbusters the second it starts and maybe even check in on St. Tim every now and then. Until then, if you miss us, you can always check us out on Tom & Lorenzo and very shortly we'll be announcing a slight shift in the status quo over there. As always, Watch What Happens, Poodles! Loveya!
